Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.
He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.
The opponent saved four early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
